According to the already established tradition, I want to congratulate everyone with memories from far, far childhood. Well, and start to congratulate all artists with upcoming holidays.

With age, you begin to acquire skepticism and you know for sure that fairy tales did not come from somewhere, did not dream and were not born in your head. Fairy tales were taken from shop windows. Exactly. It was there, near the cherished showcase, dreamed and asked for dolls, cars, trains, sweets, beautiful dresses of princesses. And what passions raged! Envy someone's shopping, promises made by parents, daily looking into the piggy bank. Yes, all the children had it. It does not matter whether in a huge city, in a small village or in the tundra. Children are always children. And the visiting car counter is as tempting as the showcase of a large store.

It is today, in the age of digitalization and universal abundance, it is difficult to surprise a child with something. And you have to break your head to surprise. And 100 and more years ago? Even half a century ago? Let's see some old photos? They are from different times and different countries, but they are united by the main thing — emotions. How long ago it had been!

So different and so alike.

Adults were surprised, and children! There was no fashion for letters to Santa Claus, which would be accurately spelled out orders. But it was a dream!

Who knows, maybe on the frozen streets, looking at the coveted items in the windows, there were future great fashion designers, scientists, inventors. And for sure, someone unfulfilled children's desires turned into a lifelong dream, and fabulous storefronts - in high-speed machines, new materials, opened new planets.

This publication appeared thanks to drawings by American artist Trisha Riley-Matthews. Children drawn by a talented master are very modern and dynamic. But showcases! They still attract and attract like a magnet.

The showcase today is a fairy tale told by professionals. For window dressing, there is even a special profession, which can be learned on courses. The windows of modern shops are decorated by famous designers and artists. The materials that are used in the design are often worth a fortune. The competition of offline stores with online stores is so great that designers take the boldest steps to attract customers in shopping centers. Think of cars or giant Christmas trees hanging upside down from the ceiling.

You can argue for a long time about what is interesting to children today, but somehow it is not visible in the network in the pictures of such emotions that were many, many years ago. Seen, dreams have become more "achievable".

Recently with friends we had fun writing letters to Santa Claus. One asked for a new car, another for a mortgage, another for a raise. Adults, pragmatic and real desires. Without emotions, without children's delight and joy from the suffering behind the glass window of the doll, finally bought by parents. We just grew up.

Dear artists, merry Christmas and a happy New Year to all of you! Let there be memories, dreams and inspiration in everyone's life. And most importantly — time for the fulfillment of all desires.
