Woolboon World: Charming Trolls, Fairies and Elves You Wish To Meet At Night In Woods

Woolboons are fantastic forest creatures, each of them fits easily on the palm of your hand. Their creator's name is Anna, she lives and works in Kharkov. The girl admits that since childhood she loved to read a variety of fairy tales and myths, and also to draw and make something with her own hands. And once Anna drew in a notebook an image of the first weirdo – and decided to turn it into a toy. Thus began the craftswoman's passion, which eventually grew into a real vocation.

This unusual name of animals comes from two English words: wool and boon — grace. The first part is simple, because most of the toys (as far as I can tell, the muzzle and legs for sure) are created from wool in the technique of needle felting. But the second part is a reference to one of the meanings of the artist's name, or rather, its translation into English.

In addition to needle felting, in the process of creating toys Anna involve a variety of types of arts one way or another: wet felting, sewing, drawing, sculpting with polymer clay, embroidery, knitting — anything that will help to make each subsequent woolboon a unique toy, simultaneously similar and dissimilar to the others.

The girl shares photos of how the fairy tale is created. Sometimes her dog Torin helps with the creative process :)

But most often the workplace of the skilled artisan is located not at the table, but on the windowsill — where there is more light:

And, of course, you need to get acquainted with the main characters of the article — Woolboons! Spoiler alert: there is a mandrake among them :)
