Tambour Embroidery Panel from 19th Century in Frame from France

We present you a vintage embroidered panel from the 19th century in a frame from France. This is tambour embroidery on silk. The picture shows a nest of partridges.

Materials: silk threads, silk fabric, wooden frame.

This delightful embroidered work comes from France and dates back to the early 19th century. The original work was carefully cut and re-applied on terracotta toned silk fabric. I guess, original silk background was severely damaged on the periphery and the image shrunk to an embroidered part. The original terracotta background can be seen under the bird and in the tree foliage.

The whole embroidery is done with a very thin tambour stitch. Original colors have probably disappeared, but now they have acquired beautiful terracotta, sage and pea green shades. The work is done so subtly that the threads are similar to cotton ones.

The embroidery depicts a nest with a grey partridge in a nest with four cheepers among field grass and flowers, under a bush and sage brushes. Total size is 17.5, 42 cm high and 12 1/4, 29.5 cm wide.

This is definitely a collectible or design thing. The panel is framed in a simple wooden frame. The work is protected by a piece of acrylic film.

And this pattern here, made of silk.
