Evening Gown 1907-08 by Jacques Doucet

Jacques Doucet (born February 19, 1853) was a French fashion designer of the late 19th – early 20th centuries.

He was widely known as the creator of elegant dresses. He made gowns from translucent materials in pastel colors. Jacques`s style is characterized by pretentiousness and overloaded decor elements. It was Jacques Doucet in the late 19th century who made Rococo colour scheme fashionable.

We present you an evening gown 1907-1908. It is made from silk with lace inserts on the bodice. Dimensions: backrest is 157.5 cm long. Front is 132.1 cm long, waist is 61 cm wide, the bottom of the skirt is 457.2 cm wide. Other parts (bodice) are 81.3 cm.

The dress is made in golden shades, complemented by pink and brown. It was embroidered with beads, glass beads, sequins, and pearls on the bodice and the bottom of the skirt. The waist line is high and is made of wide strips of contrasting brown, gathered with a bow in the front. Along the skirt, from waist to the bottom, bugle is sewn on the mesh.

Sleeves are short, decorated with beads with pear-shaped pearls at the end. The bodice of the dress is decorated with the same element. It is also embroidered with sequin lines in addition to transparent beads. Behind the skirt is a long pink fabric frill.

Large decorative elements on the bodice and skirt are made of sequins, sewn in some parts with overlap, and glass beads, laid in rows.
