How Passage 5 from Spring/Summer 2011 Collection by Dior was Created

Christian Dior presents us exciting process of creating a dress for a charming Passage 5 outfit from Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2011. John Galliano showed this collection to the world in the Rodin Museum, Paris.

The great couturier, inspired by the illustrations by artist Rene Gruo, created a truly gorgeous collection. Outfits of 1950s, 3D embroidery, volume silhouettes, emphasized waistline, rich deep shades, beautifully styled hair, red lips and femininity in all details are the main components of this beautiful collection.

We will see how to create a complex pattern for the outfit. How to create folds on the fabric by heating, and then how to fix it with machine seam. This is a very interesting process.

Embroidery of the dress was performed in Maison Hurel. To do this, the outfit was delivered to another studio. It was there where patterns for the decoration of the dress were created, performing embroidery with a Luneville hook. All stages of this process are shown in detail. We will see how the pattern is transferred to the grid in a pounce technique, as the mesh is stretched on a frame, as embroidery is created.

Dior studio is fully engaged in creating Passage 5 dress for Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2011.

The skirt is created from multiple layers by overlaying black mesh on the scarlet fabric, so that effect is great. It is important to put all the little folds and ruffles evenly, making the outfit light and volume. Skirt, created from several layers of fabric, decorated with pleating and embroidery, is placed on a mannequin.

We see the process of making a bodice for the outfit. It is also placed on the bodice, combining with the skirt.

Here are the finishing touches. The outfit is completely assembled on a mannequin, they combine all the seams, stitch, sew individual details with embroidery, hooks and buttons, punch holes for the blocks. Finally, they put a label on it.

That's a truly Royal outfit ready for the show!
