Combining Everything Possible: Color Block Knitting Technique

Now multi-color knitting is in fashion. So, we are not talking about jacquard or melange, or about knitting from my favorite yarn with sectional dyeing, but about combining large solid sections of different colors in one piece of clothing.

The definition of "color-blocking" in fashion means the art of actual and harmonious combination of colored blocks. These are properly selected colors and neat transitions from one color to another. The peculiarity of these things is in geometric inserts with clear lines of contrasting color which break one product into blocks. It may be any material, in priority is a fluffy yarn: mohair, mink, Alpaca.

The main rule of not only color-blocking, but also of combining several basic shades in one outfit is to combine no more than three bright colors. Although using such a limited number of colors can be argued, in my opinion :). Sometimes a wider range gives quite harmonious and stylish look.

So, if you are in your fantasies do not fit into magical 3 colors and your soul asks for more, you can break the boundaries. But still, it is better not to overload clothes with many colors, from which you may quickly get tired and will be sorry for the time spent on creating a "masterpiece".

If you decide to knit a thing in color-block style, keep in mind that it involves simple cut of things and absence of small details. This clothing does not tolerate combination of prints and patterns, there is no need for embroidery, appliqués and other decorative elements. The beauty is in the brevity of lines, shapes and geometry as a whole.

Clothes with large color inserts can be safely attributed to the style of minimalism. Hence, it is best to combine them with simple plain things. If clothes will still be complemented with accessories, you can choose a neutral color range or the color of one block.
