This small selection is dedicated to the jewellery by Roman Tyrtov — a French artist of Russian origin, who is known as Erte. Roman Tyrtov chose this name not accidentally — so his initials were pronounced in the French manner. Since his childhood he had dreamed of France. It was there where the ambitions of the young man were fully revealed and brought to life.

However, his creative path was not easy. Passion for fashion, graphics and art, in general, Roman`s father was against them. He wanted his son to follow in his footsteps and become a military man, not a designer. Fortunately, Erte had the courage to follow his own way.

Repin liked the earliest works by Roman Tyrtov. Later, the boy was taught by Repin`s student — Dmitry Losevskiy.

His first job in beloved Paris was in small studio Carolyn, but there his bold sketches did not find their place. Then the young artist went right in the fashion house of Paul Poiret. This fashion designer was famous for his desire for exoticism and unique ideas of dresses without corsets. Erte's ideas found the right place.

Over time, the artist took work for stages, posters and covers. Mata Hari herself danced in his dress, and for Harper's Bazaar he drew about 250 original illustrations.

In addition, Roman proved himself as an interior designer, stage designer, sculptor and, of course, a jeweller. It is believed that he made a significant contribution to Art Deco style as we know it today.
