Mirror Architecture

In the age of innovation and construction of skyscrapers I want to touch upon the topic of mirror architecture. After all, we use mirror decor, which serves only for interior design, but we cannot imagine the amount of work, looking at the mirror surface in the design of the facades of buildings. How much effort, skills and talent you need to make something very unusual, space-like. Our selection is dedicated to the most modern and advanced buildings, erected around the world, in the construction of which mirror facade was used. Architects began to use mirror surfaces in the design of facades more often, because with the help of mirrors you can visually change the volume and shape of a building, create an optical illusion or even make an object "invisible". Let's admire the beauty, created by human, together.

The most unusual mirror buildings around the world:

Museum in New Zealand.

Len Lye center in New Plymouth is dedicated exclusively to the work of Len Lye, a New Zealand experimenter in the field of video art and kinetic sculpture. Architects in the construction of the building tried to convey the quintessence of the creative method of the artist. The mirror wavy facade resembles an art installation.

Vieux Port Pavillion.

This splendor appeared as part of the reconstruction of the old port in Marseille, one of the main tourist attractions in the city. The mirror arch reflects water surface and walking passers-by. Here you can hide from summer heat and rain, and the place is suitable for fairs and cultural events. The stainless steel canopy is supported by eight light columns, the boundaries of the pavilion are rather conditional, so the design fits into the surrounding historic buildings harmoniously.

Museum of Art in Norway.

A huge metal cube of the Museum of Art in Lillehammer has become a new symbol of the city. The architects of the bureau have worked on the project twice to expand the Museum in 1994 and 2016. The mirror cube with a dynamic surface became part of the Wiedemannsalen Gallery, the first level has a children's workshop, and the second floor is dedicated to the work of the artist Jakob Weidemann. The silver block resembles a shooting star, symbolizing the author's contribution to the development of painting in Norway.

Mirror bowl in Rotterdam.

The Dutch Studio has come up with a project of a bowl-shaped storage for the works of art of the Boijmans van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam with a mirror exterior and a sculpture in the roof garden. The building has a rounded shape that gets narrower to the base to minimize its impact on the park.

Not only public buildings, but designers also conduct their experiments on private homes around the world in a good sense of the word, making mirror facades.

House in California.

Country house in Chicago.

House in the suburbs.

Holiday home in Italy.

Even a mirrored tree house in Northern Sweden.

Camouflaged houses, striking museums, fascinating art pavillions, some buildings integrated into the densely built city like that, while another ones — in the natural landscape; some look quite familiar, another are easily confused with the decorations for the unfinished films by Stanley Kubrick.

In today's world, as we see, nothing is impossible. Architecture and design of buildings have reached unprecedented heights and skill, of course, because of the highest level of professionals :)
