Butterfly Catcher: Frighteningly Realistic, Eye-Catching Insects by Emily Yeadon

Emily Yeadon creates amazingly realistic insects from fabric. The basis of her work is moths and butterflies, whose weightless wings she recreates in textiles, embroidery and painting.

The artist was born and raised in the north of England. Their house was surrounded by endless fields and forests, and on the horizon towered the Yorkshire Dales. The girl admits that the nature of her native land forever sunk into her soul, later inspiring her creativity.

Emily is a self-taught needlewoman, and she began to create her first fabric moths and butterflies in 2017. Emily admits that her career was full of difficulties, trial and errors. But at the same time, it is an independent study that allowed the artist to explore a variety of opportunities and materials, harmoniously develop skills and form her unique style.

Today Emily works in a bright workshop in Yorkshire, the UK. Her brand is called Homemade Trap that catches only the most beautiful butterflies :)

Emily loves sharing photos of the creative process, from the selection of threads for a new project to the elaboration of the smallest details, such as the legs of an insect. All works are created from scratch and completely by hand:

Emily's works amaze by their detail: you look at the photo and can not even believe that these butterflies are not real! But the size reveals the secret: the wingspan of one insect on average is from 16 to 20 cm.

Below is a photo of moths from the artist's collection:

The main goal of Emily is to draw attention to different species of moths and butterflies, many of which are now under threat or gradually disappear from their usual habitats.

Do you like butterflies and moths? Or winged creatures make you scared and terrified? :)
