Satin outfit: Tea Gown with Embroidery 1897

We present you a beautiful and rare Tea gown outfit in Liberty Aesthetic Movement style, made of copper satin. It dates back to 1897... The waist has a golden writing "Liberty & Co Ltd Artistic and Historic Costume Studio". The outfit is made in pseudo-medieval style.

The bodice is made of fine ivory fabric - chiffon with pleating. Long sleeves of chiffon end with flounces. Over the bodice is a lace yoke with robings, a stand-up collar, matching the color of chiffon. The same lace is on the narrow sleeves under the buttoned ruffle cuffs. The lace is complemented with amber beads.

The copper satin fabric is made of a Watteau fold on the back, turning into a long skirt, richly embroidered with a pattern of gold flowers and leaves, a choker collar and a V-shaped belt with a clasp. The pattern is made of threads and supplemented with amber faceted beads. At the collar, the fabric under the embroidery is gathered in folds-buffs. The bottom of the dress in the front is also decorated with embroidery and intercepted at the bodice with a silk cord with amber beads at the ends.

In 1884, "Liberty & Co Ltd Artistic and Historic Costume Studio" opened a clothing department, headed by a designer consturctor E. W. Godwin. He was a member of the aesthetic movement, which preferred "artistic" clothing for women, based on classic, medieval, pre-Raphaelite and Renaissance clothing.
