Perm State Art Gallery is a cultural pearl of Perm, which opens the world of beauty to visitors. The collections comprise about 50,000 works of fine art from ancient times to the present. The Museum is located in the building of the Transfiguration Cathedral. Visiting Perm Art Gallery begins with an exhibition of Russian painting of 18th – 19th centuries. From portraits by unknown artists of the early 18th century to paintings by Bryullov, Vereshchagin, Bruni. Paintings by Savrasov, Levitan, Kramskoy, Repin and Serov are among the most interesting works of the Art Gallery in Perm that show the development of Russian painting in the second half of the 19th – early 20th centuries.

The art of the Renaissance

The collection of icons in Perm Art Gallery is amazing, it has samples of the Stroganov`s school of icon painting. In the collection of the Gallery you can see the icons collected and systematized Nicolay Serebryanikov. Art historian collected icons throughout the Kama region: in the Ilyinsky district, in Verkhnekamye area, in Komi-Permyak Autonomous district, in the former mining areas. The collection of icons opened to the world a unique and inimitable school of icon painting, previously unknown worldwide.

Perm wooden sculpture is a unique part in the collection of Perm Art Gallery. The wooden sculpture reflects local color and features of the beliefs of the indigenous population of the Kama region, and shows a high level of local artists. Thanks to high skills of the created sculptures there was a unique phenomenon called "Perm Gods". Wooden sculpture shows the worldview of the indigenous peoples of the Kama region, as well as the nature of their beliefs. Perm wooden sculpture is one of the best examples of religious folk art, developed during the 17th – 19th centuries.

A gorgeous collection of paintings in magnificent frames, beautiful wooden sculptures, and a superb display of icons to the accompaniment of church singing is immersed in the wonderful atmosphere of art. I recommend everyone who will be in Perm to visit the Gallery. Every third Wednesday of the month admission is free.
