Franklin Mint History: Paradise for Сollectors

Franklin Mint is an unusual company. It was founded relatively recently, in the middle of the 20th century and its founder Joseph Segel did not plan to become one of the leading manufacturers of collectible porcelain figurines. Joseph Segel wanted to make money and decided to make it by producing... money. To do this, in 1965, he founded the Franklin Mint and began his business with coinage of metal cents, pennies, pfenings, centavos and santimo for foreign countries, and at the same time minted tokens for casinos and a variety of memorabilia and medals. Segel was a great businessman, and luck gave him a great opportunity in the form of a large contract with the Nevada Casino. In 1969, due to the crisis in silver industry, silver dollar was withdrawn from circulation in the casino, and the management of the largest casinos decided to use the dollar from the Franklin Mint, an alloy similar to silver, that is what Joseph began to produce at his factory.

His business was very successful, the production of money steadily multiplied Joseph's money, and by 1975 he became a very rich man. He was not going to rest on his laurels, and began to think about expanding the business. Without further thinking, he decided to follow the same direction, because collecting was the oldest human passion. The famous in narrow circles Franklint Mint has become one of the trendsetters in the world of collecting and producing the most fantastic souvenirs and gifts.

Exclusive penknives, magnificent jewellery, rare books, costumed dolls, collection coins... Perfectly executed metal figures of soldiers and models of classical cars are the real rarity and a subject of fascinating hunting of collectors around the globe. Joseph Segel was good at understanding human psychology who tend to collect things, and announced a new policy of the company — limited editions. Oh, tempers flared and turned the search for lots for the collection into an exciting adventure.

In 1983, Franklin Mint Corporation opened its own porcelain factory and enriched its repertoire with collectible porcelain figurines and interior items. Franklin Mint in the world of porcelain was a synonym of showiness, brightness and a special kind of elegance, with a sort of touch of challenge and outrageous mood. All the works of this American company were made by famous porcelain artists and were real pieces of art. Figurines of girls, mythical animals, porcelain sculptures of women in national costumes, fairy-tale characters, portraits of book and movie characters, made of porcelain, figurines of ballerinas, collectible bells, original thimbles, decorative plates with a magnificent painting on porcelain — that is not a full list of Franklin Mint porcelain beauty.
