How to Draw Every Day

Drawing is the same skill as any other, it can be boosted with the help of daily classes. Even 15 minutes will be enough, the main thing for it to become a habit, a systematic action.

Set your goal.

First of all, be aware of your desire, giving it a clear framework and deadlines. It is best to do this on paper or in an electronic oganizer. Keeping in mind golden rules of goal setting, formulate it as specific as possible. Do not write, "I will draw every day." Put it like this: "I will draw every day for fifteen minutes before bedtime for seven days". Now it looks much better. The goal should be as specific as possible and achievable. Do not plunge into 365-days project immediately or promise yourself to draw at least an hour. In such a way, you risk immediately to leave the distance.

Keep your tools at hand.

At any time when you want to draw, you only have to put your hand out to start. Often on the way to the goal we are stopped by extra movements that are necessary to get down to business.

The easiest way, especially at the first stages, is to buy and keep any sketchbook and a couple of pencils of varying degrees of rigidity. If you draw with a liner or a pen — everything becomes even easier.

If you have chosen paint, try to make a small separate place for painting, maybe on a windowsill, so you do not have to clean the table every time, or fold everything, so that you can prepare for work in a minute, without getting up from the table and without wasting precious time.

Make a plan.

It seems that the world around asks to be painted, but every artist knows that sometimes there are no ideas for drawings. It is even more difficult for those who have never painted before, and just do not know what to start with. Therefore, it is better to make a plan for the next week and constantly return to it, complementing it.

An assistant in the preparation of the plan can be of benefit for the novice or themed marathons. For example, Mark Kistler's book "You Can Draw in 30 Days" may provide you with simple tasks for the whole month.

Sketchbooks of "Draw Flowers, Animals, People" series are perfect. They can be found in bookstores and stationery stores. Each turn in them has step-by-step instructions for creation of these or that illustrations. The pictures are gradually becoming more complex.

Such sketchbooks have a place for notes and you may use them as a day timer. Then the principle of "keep your tools at hand" would be even easier to follow.

Make up "theme weeks", when you will draw something like food, emotions, clothes, landscapes. Or you may take part in a marathon — a lot of them are held on different web-sites, and in the company of like-minded people it will be easier not to give up.

What`s the most important, enjoy the process!
