Maslenitsa is one of the most popular holidays in folk culture.

This year it will be celebrated from 4 to 10 March.

The celebration of Maslenitsa is an ancient Slavic tradition. This holiday symbolizes coming of spring and farewell to long and cold winter. During this time, people have fun, visit friends, arrange festivities and eat pancakes, give gifts. Pancakes are perfect treats for pancake day, loved by all without exception. Pancakes have long been considered a symbol of the Sun, which heats the earth and brings warmth. So, the more pancakes will be baked on Maslenitsa, the richer and happier your family will be this spring. Perhaps this is the only holiday that has been preserved with all its traditions to this day. Every year at the carnival in all towns and cities takes place noisy and fun fairs with booths, pancakes and hot samovar. The day ends with a traditional ritual of burning effigies.

So, burning a straw doll, we see off winter and all troubles together with it.

Today I have made a small selection of creative materials dedicated to this fun and warm holiday.

This paintings, and appliqués, and embroidery, and outfits for adults and children... This batik and hand-painted plates under the pancake. These are crafts that can be done with children and then given to your beloved ones.

And, of course, the decorations of the festive pancake table!

As you have good Maslenitsa day, you`ll have a good year!

I wish you all warm sun and clear sky!
