Street style as Lifestyle

Street style is a fashion style that appeared thanks to young people and their desire for self-expression. The name of the style speaks for itself.

Historically, street style originated in the early 1950s, and bright representatives of this style were England and Japan. English young people of that time began to protest against the rules and regulations and this was clearly manifested in their appearance. Despite all this, English street style of clothing kept its elegance.

At the same time, this style began marching across Japan (a country, as England, with conservative national traditions). By the way, Japanese street style of subcultures is very different and stands out from many similar ones. Its main difference is complete freedom in combining styles to create a look. It is necessary to note, elements of traditional Japanese clothes remained in many subcultural styles. In addition, the Japanese have a unique sense of style, they combine seemingly incompatible wardrobe items very well.

In the United States, street style appeared in California at the turn of 1970-80s, thanks to the development of sports in the country, especially surfing. To 1990s, sports style was complemented by the influences of hip-hop, sport-chic began to develop.

Street style is constantly evolving and developing. That is all thanks to new cultural trends: elements of hip-hop, punk, heavy metal, haute couture and other.

The main rule of street style is absence of rules. Street style can be romantic and elegant as in France, comfortable and non-standard as in England or shocking as in Japan.

The main manifestations of this style are:

  • wide color palette;
  • extravagance;
  • unexpected combinations of styles in one in look, for example, the merger of Gothic and Baroque styles, or strict jacket in combination with shorts.

The advantage of this style — no restrictions and attachment to trends. Adherents of this style can competently combine vintage things with everyday things, haute couture with second hand staff, create things with their own hands or order (handmade).

Nowadays, there are disputes whether this style will stay or will become obsolete as many fashion houses adopted these ideas. In my opinion, this style will exist for a long time. There will be new directions in music, art, sports and other spheres of life. Perhaps, the name of this style will change. But the desire of people to emphasize their individuality despite the trends of couture fashion and trends will remain unchanged. Clothing gives that very opportunity.

The opportunity to develop your own unique style, which may become a new trend.
