And now let's talk about a screen. The dictionary gives this definition: a screen is a folding portable partition consisting of frames — doors, covered with material.

In Russian language the word "screen" came in the 18th century from the German Schirm: literally "a barrier". The fashion for screens came from Europe, where they had come from China in the 17th century at the time of the Europeans' craze about all Chinese. Its ability to hide something behind its doors was seen as a great opportunity: they created comfort in huge rooms of mansions, separated a bed or a dressing room from the rest part of the room.

Further use of a screen was found in the 19–20th centuries, when people placed them in the rooms of guest houses and turned one apartment into several, smaller ones.

Today, this piece of interior is in demand again, and the thing from the Middle Ages continues the victorious march in the 21st century. Instead of complex designs of sliding partitions sometimes it is better to put a screen. It can be easily folded, cleaned and carried. And finally — an interior screen is much cheaper than stationary dividing walls. Space, organized with its help, can be intended for a variety of purposes.

This exotic partition rightfully occupies an honorable place in bedrooms, boudoirs and small living rooms. Sometimes, it helps to separate office or dining area. However, the real reason for the people's recognition of a screen is the atmosphere of solitude and comfort created with its help. So places to sleep, chat or read are often organised behind screens. Of course, this is a great place to socialize and relax among a narrow circle of loved ones.
