"Naughty pig" is a small purse in a Japanese style of Akemi Sibata design.

Materials:

• Japanese textured cotton — 2 pieces of 10-12 cm, 1 piece of 8-12 cm and small pieces of pink cotton for the applique;
• a piece of interlining fabric with a size of 22-12 cm;
• printed cotton for lining, 22-12 cm;
• threads for applique, sewing and stitching, black, brown and pink embroidery floss;
• a zipper, 12-15 cm;
• bias binding, 55 cm

Tools:

• a water soluble marker for fabric, a marker for discs;
• a plastic folder or paper for freezing;
• a wheel for the applique;
• an iron for the applique;
• needles and thread for the applique, sewing, embroidery and quilting;
• scissors;
• a needle threader;
• a thimble;
• a brush for wetting allowances;
• copy paper or paper for applique transfer.

1. Take pieces of Japanese textured cotton of suitable color. Two pink pieces are for the pig. The rest pieces are for background, bottom and piping. Cut out three rectangular parts: bottom — 8-12 cm, foreground — 10-12 cm, background — 10-12 cm.

2. Transfer the pattern to a piece of clear plastic from ordinary paper using a marker for discs. You can use special paper for freezing, but I like to make an applique with a plastic folder — it's cheaper and more convenient. Cut out all the details of plastic.

3. Using a water soluble marker, transfer the pattern of the muzzle on the fabric. Usually Japanese textured cotton is double-sided, but still we pay attention to the fact that the wrong side is on top. Cut with 4-5 mm allowances. Sew on with basting stitches around the edge, leaving two tails, as pictured.

4. Put on the plastic pattern. Slightly wet the edge of the allowance with a wet brush.

5. Tighten with a thread and iron on. You can press with a special iron for appliques at low temperature. You can press with a simple iron in silk regime. At this temperature, the fabric will be ironed and the plastic won't melt.

6. Make the snout in the same way. When cinching you can hold small details with a thin stick or small scissors. Leave the parts to dry.

7. The bun is made almost in the same way. Only leave an unfolded 5-7 allowance at the lower edge. It will go under the seam of the bottom.

8. Cut the ears with a 4-5 mm allowance at each side and 5-7 mm at the bottom. Cut pointy ends a little, roll a wheel for appliques across sharp edges

and bend the tip of the ear inward. You can smoothen it with a hot iron or with a plastic one. Then carefully roll the seams with a wheel on both sides of the corner. Cut in two or three places on each side to ensure that the ear is slightly rounded, not straight like a cat's ear :)

Bend the allowances and iron them. Try to make an ear sharp and not straight.

We got two pig's ears, which we leave to dry.

9. Hooves are made almost in the same way as the bun. Cinch and iron a half round allowance, and fold the bottom edge from the top and iron it.

10. Admire the details and let them dry.

11. Remove the pattern template from the bun detail and pin or glue it with textile glue on the place of sewing.

Stitch with a blind seam using a thin and sharp needle for applique. In a few words, the technology of sewing is the following: leave the knot on the wrong side, bring needle to the edge (the place where the applique folds), pull the thread, put the needle close and slightly back from this place in the base fabric and put it out again in the edge approximately 3 mm from the previous stitch, pull again, repeat. You can make more stitches in complex areas.

12. Put the detail with the sewn applique to the bottom part and sew it on. Do not forget to steam with an iron, turning the whole seam in one direction, opposite of the applique, so that there are not many layers under the applique.

Put the right side background detail on the other side and sew it on. Iron the seams on two sides. Transfer the outlines of the pattern on the fabric in any convenient way. I did it using carbon paper. You can use paper for applique transfer.

13. First, sew on the ears, making the seam only on two sides (the third will be closed by the head of the pig). The seam should go on the head not more than 3 mm. We will cut the rest later.

14. Now the head! Don't forget to cut the tips of threads which we tightened and to remove templates from details. Remember that we sewed ears 3 mm below the head detail. You can gently cut unnecessary fabric to avoid unnecessary volume.

15. Hooves overlap the bottom detail, pin them and sew.

16. Yay! We sewed on the applique and now we draw with the pattern for embroidering with a water-soluble marker.

17. When the embroidery is finished, mark up on the pattern all boundaries of the detail (outline the pattern) and draw lines for future stitches. Then assemble a sandwich: top-interlining-lining.

18. Cut the stitched sandwich with an allowance of 0.3-0.5 cm and then gently sew on bias tape. Turn it at an angle of 45 degrees in the joint point.

19. Turn the bias tape inside out, steam it off and sew from the inside with blind stitches. Do not stitch all three layers, only the lining and the interlining.

20. You must get this blank.

21. Mark the middle of the zipper and the coin purse from the inner side with a water-soluble marker.

22. Sew on the zipper from the middle to the edges with backstitches. Stitch only the lining fabric and the slimtex — the seam is not visible on the main fabric.

23. Close the zipper and check if everything is ok with symmetry.

24. Carefully, with thread matching the zipper, with small stitches sew the edge of the zipper, but first carefully steam it off with an iron to smoothen the bumps.

25. Sew on the sides from the inside with backstitches. When you reach the zipper, turn and sew 1.5 cm in the opposite direction to secure it.

26. Stitch the corners. You can sew them from the front side with blind stitches or on a sewing machine.

27. You can tuck up the corners to the top and stitch them to the underside of the coin purse. Or you can cut them like here and process the edge.

Sew with a needle a piece of frieze on top of the same seam.

Wrap the bias tape, bend it from three sides and pin.

Sew with blind stitches. The internal corner of the coin purse is processed. Process the second corner in the same way.

28. Turn the purse inside out and admire the product!
