Technique of Painting with Alcohol Ink

The main principles of spreading spots in the technique of alcohol ink painting are shown in the video.

We will need:

  • A hair dryer, plastic cups, oilcloth on a table.
  • Ink ot refills for alcohol markers.
  • Alcohol.
  • Synthetic paper (or any other suitable surface).

Working principle:

  1. Pour some alcohol into a cup and add inks depending on what color you want to achieve. In the video I use the "Atlantis" color by ScrapEgo. You can see at the test paper that the color is navy. However, when diluted it gains such a beautiful nude shade of blue and it is sufficient to add only a few drops. If we used the first blue color of the ink we would have needed a lot more ink, so it is better to choose saturated and darker shades.
  2. Pour alcohol on a paper and add a little bit of the contents of the cup.
  3. Turn on a hair dryer on cold mode, not in the full capacity and spread the spot with streams of air along our "canvas".
  4. Basic principles of work with a hairdryer:
  • It is advisable to use cold air, if there is one.
  • Hold the dryer perpendicular to the sheet, not tilting it.
  • Blow the spot on the perimeter from all sides, direct the flows only at the edges of the sheet without touching its center.
  • As the "puddle" dries we add paint from the glass, alcohol, or pure ink, depending on which effect we need: lighter or darker.

5. Cover the finished painting with aerosol lacquer.
