How did a brooch appear?

The word 'brooch' originates from French and is translated as a 'long needle'. The first brooches appeared in the bronze age and were called fibulae. Their original purpose was to serve as a pin that held folds of clothes together.

Only in the 17th century, a brooch with only a decorative purpose appeared. They consisted of a bow and pendants, and in the 18th century, a large variety of brooches with different ornaments, jewels and of different purpose began to appear — for sleeves, skirts, as a hair decoration, and so on.
