Dean Mitchell and His Watercolour Landscapes
  • Category: Ideas & Inspiration

I was attracted by the graphical style of the artist — watercolour suggests something fluid, colour gradations. Dean Mitchell makes his works geometric, uses layers that sculpt his paintings.

Dean Mitchell was born in 1957 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and grew up in Quincy, Florida. He is a graduate of the College of Art and Design in Columbus. The African American used to come through difficulties when presenting his art but returned to his native city and received an offer to exhibit his works in a local gallery. In 1980, after moving to Kansas, Missouri, he began working as an Illustrator for Hallmark Cards. He participated in a greater number of competitions and received awards. Success followed and he decided to follow his passion. He was even ready to live on a shoestring budget as long as necessary, just to make a name. The artist spent a lot of time alone focusing all attention to pictures.
