Sewing a Shopping Bag out of a Homespun Rug Without a Pattern

Large roomy shopping bags are perfect for trips, beaches, shopping — and it's great o sew one that would perfectly match your look :)

Today I offer you to sew a bag with your own hands. Without a pattern and from scrap materials. I used:

  • a piece of homespun 55 cm by 80 cm
  • a piece of cotton for the lining
  • cotton strap for handles (100-130 cm)
  • wooden button
  • and monochrome term print for decor

First, cut off a little fringe:

Fold the rug in half lengthwise and stitch the side and bottom seams. Always overstitch so that the edge didn't crumble.

Shape the bottom:

Cut off excess fabric:

Similarly, prepare the lining:

Assemble all the parts before sewing them together:

Bend the handles up and stitch them:

All is ready. Now iron the temp decoration, I selected such dog:

The plastic base is removed when all is cool. If the pattern doesn't stick to the bag, iron this place once again over the film:

This is the result :) Wish you much creativity!
