An unusual art object appeared at the central railway station of Zurich — a giant crochet tree grew up in the middle of the waiting room. The author of the installation, Brazilian artist Ernesto Neto, is famous for his large-scale works based on different organic shapes.

The awesome installation called the Mother Gaia's Tree with its crown rises 20 meters from the floor. The creation of the tree took more than ten kilometres of cotton yarn dyed by hand with natural dyes. 27 artists needed several weeks of hard work to weave this impressive tent in the technique of hand crocheting, and it took five days and nights to install it. To fix the construction, various bags with seeds of spices and dried flowers were used with the total weight of half a ton.

This work was carried out with the support of the Beyeler Foundation and is already recognized as the most ambitious project, as well as the most visited modern art object over the last twenty years.
