A St. Valentine's DIY Project: Making a Lavender Heart

On the eve of Valentine's Day, I suggest you make such a decorative heart with your hands, scented with lavender essential oil.

To begin with, get all supplies you need:

  • natural unbleached linen
  • a template of a heart
  • scissors
  • pencil
  • filler (I used wool)
  • lavender essential oil
  • a stick for stuffing
  • bright thick thread (embroidery floss)
  • a needle with a wide eye
  • pins
  • ground for decoupage
  • sponge
  • decoupage napkins with pictures of flowers, butterflies
  • brush
  • acrylic lacquer

Are you all ready? Then go ahead!

Sprinkle the filler with a few drops of lavender oil (don't overdo — 5 drops are quite enough), crumple in hands and leave to soak up the flavor.

Cut out two hearts:

Pin the halves:

Stitch them:

And stuff:

Sew up to the end:

Tear out images from napkins:

Primed the pad starting from the middle:

Try to make a smooth transfer from white prime to beige ground. There is no need to wait until it dries.

Apply the image to the wet ground and soak it with varnish.

Add one more fragment, if needed:

Cover all blank parts:

Apply varnish once again and leave the pad to dry for a few hours.

Fray the edge of the fabric and tie a beautiful bow! An exclusive present is ready!
