How to Sew a Provence Table Napkin

I'd like to show you how to sew a Provence table napkin. You need:

  • two types of fabric: lilac-purple and polka-dot
  • a cut piece of fabric with a lavender flower in a pot
  • thin satin ribbon, width 6 mm
  • bias binding
  • white thin threads for sewing

All materials should be of matching colours, like in the photo. Wash and steam iron all before sewing:

Select the sizes you need, cut out all blanks beforehand and proceed to sew.

Tack the bias binding to the edge of the medallion right side leaving a 5 mm allowance:

Sew the bias binding following the steps: first, sew the short cuts of the binding, turn them and sew the bias tape around the medallion.

Iron the sewn bias tape and fold the edge on the wrong side. Tack.

Now sew the medallion to the centre of the napkin. Pin or tack it beforehand.

Stitch it close the edge at 1-2 mm from the edge:

Looks really great!

Apply the ribbons, tack at 3 cm from the edge.

Stitch the ribbons at 1 mm from their edges.

Put the napkin on a rectangle of another ordinary fabric. Bend all edges, iron and tack taking into account a 2 cm border. That is, the hem will take about 1 cm.

I stitched all at once.

I stitched the corners square, resembling the Greek meander. I also knitted the knots and hid the ends.

That's all! The ready napkin is ironed and you can enjoy the result! :)

I hope that my tutorial will help you to sew beautiful things in the Provence style.

I wish you all success!
