Recovering a Viennese Chair from Ashes

I have several stories from the life of the Viennese chairs... And each story is unique — though, sometimes it's easier to burn than to restore. This story has a happy end.

Materials for restoration:

1. Remover for cars and varnish and paint remover from a hardware store.

2. Power sander and sandpaper of different grind.

3. Decorative impregnation to protect the wood.

4. Wooden paste coating.

5. Stencil.

6. Glue for gilding.

7. Imitation gold leaf.

What a chair looked like:

Disassemble it into pieces, remove rusty bolts:

Wash of paint, use a scraper:

Sand:

When you find cracks, glue them and press with woodworking clamps:

Sand with the machine:

Here I used a decorative element, applied it with the stencil and coating:

And the most pleasant part — impregnating, painting and varnishing:

And apply some gold over glue:

All is done! Enjoy the new old chair! :)
