Creating a Silver Ring with Your Own Hands

This time I'll show you how I make a ring with beads in the style of Dior.

You need:

  • 925 sterling silver: plate 3*3 cm, 0.5-0.6 mm thick, a square bar 2*2 mm*5 cm
  • tools: rolling mill, jig saw with sawing, hammers, mandrel, drilling machine and various nozzles for grinding and polishing (sandpaper, rotating brushes, rubber polishing wheel); die-cut, doming block with punches, files and needle files, binder
  • soldering kit: torch and board for soldering, tweezers, titanium soldering stick, brush, flux (liquid fluoro), solder, chill

The ring consists of 3 elements: 2 balls of different diameter and the ring base.

Balls

Finished balls should be 12 and 9 mm in diameter.

Make 4 blanks.

Two plates of 15 mm and two plates 12 mm in diameter.

Now turn them into semi-spheres:

Since metal becomes solid, it should be periodically heated red with the burner.

Lean the punches when hammering to make the right shape:

Smooth the edges with the file:

It is desirable to make the beads perfect, but I admit I rarely get them, there's always an error about 0.1 to 0.5 mm. I'm only human after all :)

Now put the pieces of solder inside to join the halves:

Gently melt the solder, make it flpour into the dirrection of the seam.

Capture the ball with the wire — binder.

Don't forget about flux. Solder. Repeat with the second ball.

When heated, solder carefully fills up the seam.

Next, remove the solder excess with sandpaper.

The balls are ready.

Ring base

Take the square bar 2*2 mm, and find the desired size.

Mine was size 17 to 18.5.

Perfect the surface of the joining point with the needle:

First, solder the small ball.

Then the second one.

The ring is almost ready.

Put it in the chill.

Important!

The ring must contact with water or chill right at the very end. One mustn't let liquid inside the balls, otherwise they can break when heated!

Grind and polish :)

Now it's finally ready! :)

Thank you for your attention. I hope that the tutorial was interesting :)
