Sewing a Fabric Doll on Your Own

The DIY is great for beginners, but skillful needlewomen might find here something interesting. So, let's start.

Take all you see below:

And you can use my pattern.

The doll will be 24-25 cm. Dashed lines shouldn't be sewn. Pay attention to the direction of grain lines (indicated by arrows).

Leave allowances of about 0.5 cm around the perimeter of all the parts, the neck allowance — 1 cm, head allowance — 0.7-1cm. Stitch all the parts on the sewing machine, except the head, holes for turning are left unsewn. Cut out the parts of the head with allowances of 0.7-1 cm.

Sew the tucks on the head, take the two details with right sides inside and sew around the contour leaving a hole for turning between the tucks. Use zigzag scissors and make cuuts at the rounded parts. Turn the details outside in.

And stuff the body and head properly.

Sew up the hole in the head. Insert a bamboo stick with the tip down about up to the middle into the neck, break the stick leaving 1.5-2 cm. Put the broken piece aside.

Make a small hole (photo 1).
Spread the filler and all creases of the seams inside with the stick. You can add more filler, if necessary (photo 2).
Join the head and the body (photo 3).
Sew the neck to back side of the head with a concealed stitch, it will be hidden under hair (photo 4).
Such shape of the head should come out (photo 5, 6).

Now the toes.

Fill the toes and heels. Sew in between the toes. Stuff the legs very tightly.

To stuff the fingers, use a manicure stick, then follow the steps below:

Go to painting.

A slight sketch, emphasize the main lines:

Add main colours:

Add shades:

I use acrylic paint for bright parts and crayons rubbed on sandpaper for shades. Apply more details:

All is fixed with matt laquer spray.

Next, sew the legs.

Sew with the help of buttons. Ttighten properly and make knots. The ends of the threads are hidden in the body.

Sew up the hands.

A long tail of the thread is inserted into one shoulder, the tail of the second thread from the second hand is inserted into another shoulder. The ends of the threads are knotted properly. The ends of the threads are hidden in the body.

And here is the doll, it's almost ready!

Sew hair to the doll. Stitch strands of yarn to fusible webbing strip on the machine, then sew the blanks one by one starting from the low back of the head. Move circular.
