Temari story covers several centuries. It first appeared in China, grandmothers made them for children from scraps of old kimonos. The balls were imported to Japan in the 8th century. Then they were made so tight that they hopped and bounced from the floor quite well (like a soccer ball) and they were hit with feet. In the 14-15th centuries, balls embroidered with silk thread began to appear and were made by daughters of samurais.

Since the 19th century, cotton was used. And today the art of Temari has spread around the world. There is even a Temari Museum and schools where the art is taught in Japan. Let's see how great they are!
