Sculpting a Biomechanic Elephant Brooch of Polymer Clay

In this DIY I want to tell you how to make such a cute biomechanic elephant broocch.
So, you need:

1. Polymer clay (any color you like).
2. Tools — the simplest, and usually I use a scalpel, a pair of knitting needles of different sizes, needles, toothpicks, synthetic brushes 2-5.

Knead a piece of polymer clay of the size you need, it becomes softer and more manageable. Give the piece the shape of an elephant, pulling the trunk from one side.

Add such details cut out of rolled clay:

Go on with additional decor, start using cuts and black clay for the eyes and tusk:

And that's the time to add some true mechanics. I attached clockwork pieces with a special baked glue — Translucent Liquid Sculpey.

Next — painting: Rub dry pastel and apply the powder with a dry brush.
After that, wipe the blank with a damp cloth — tinted part remain in the edges, but all convex parts remain with the original colour.
Use the same damp cloth to apply some bronze, silverfish or any metallic powder, if you wish.

The baked item is varnished, I used gloss varnish for yachts Tikkurila Unica Super.
Here's the elephant you get at the end :)
