"Delicious" Brooches: Vintage Jewelry from Austria

The world of vintage jewelry is very rich. It's like a whole planet with a lot of people of different ages (mostly elderly and very elderly) and nationalities. A special place is occupied by Austrian fruit and berries brooches and clip earrings produced in the '40s and '50s. In almost every vintage jewelry guide, some pages are devoted to these "lollipops". They are worth to learn about a little more.

The jewelries were manufactured in Austria after World War II. In the middle of the 20th century, other manufacturers produced similar brooches, but the most "delicious" and juicy were from Austria. Strawberries, pears, raspberries, grapes, cherries, lemons, oranges were favourited by many women. And now there are women who collect only these series of vintage jewelry, I personally know two.

The base for the broches and clips was made of a gilded or varnished piece of metal, and the cabochons were made of mat or frosted glass. The effect of inner glow and depth was achieved through the use of golden or silvery foil put under the cabochon, it flickered from the inside. Some brooches and clips were decorated with Austrian crystals, popular around the world because of their high quality. The jewelries have an "Austria" hallmark.

Austrian brooches in the shape of fruits and berries can still be bought on vintage markets, they are almost always available, however, it is difficult to find some in excellent condition. After all, they are over 70 years old...

Have a nice day!
