In 1947, Christian Dior created his Haute couture collection. It was brilliant and scandalous. Impoverished Europe has been mired in the epoch of "handmade", all dresses, bags and hats of the 40-ies were created in austerity, and this beautiful, elegant Parisian collection, with bell skirt dresses, was out of the blue; by the way, the collection was called "The Bell". It was the editor in chief of Harper's Bazaar Carmel Snow who called it "New look", and the name caught on.

Dior returned corsets abollished by Chanel, spent 15-25 meters of fabric on each dress, made a woman gracefull and feminine again. Chanel continued the battle for boyish slimness and elegant minimalism in the '60s and won it. The time of the fairy-tale had gone. But we still enjoy and marvel these incredible garments.
