Beautiful may be very close, even under your feet. This interesting feature is marvelous manhole leads. In 1985, the officials of the city of Shizuoka allowed service organizations to create their own design of manholes, and the idea spread throughout Japan. A special company became responsible for painting lids — The Japan Society of Manhole Lids. For several years, more than 6000 painted lids have been installed.

Japanese photographer Morito set a target to collect photos of all lids of the country. By now, there are about 700 images in his collection.
