Sewing a Purse and Passport Cover with a Magnetic Button

I want to tell you how to sew a purse and make a passport cover with a magnetic button. I made this for my daughter, first she wanted a simple purse, and then needed one for bank cards and triffles :) overall, it's not quite simple.

You need:

1. Cotton.

2. Polyester batting.

3. Thread.

4. Zip 30 cm.

5. Scissors.

6. Ruler.

7. Decorative jewelry.

8. Paper for endpapers.

9. Magnetic button.

10. Bindery cardboard.

11. Moment glue.

12. Glue or dublerin.

Cut a rectangle 15*21 cm of cotton and polyester batting, the second rectangle is larger, 17*23 cm. The fabric is ironed immediately.

Baste all three layers together.

Mark out the future stitches, I took as a step the width of the ruler. I drew with soap.

Mark out one side, then the other.

Stitch.

This is what you get at the end.

Cut off the excess along the edge of the top of the rectangle, remove the basting. Get the size of 14.5*20 cm

This is the backside.

Cut out for the pockets : 14.5*10 cm — 2 details, 14.5*8 cm — 1 detail, 14.5*6 cm — 1 detail.

Iron the glue base to the three parts, one large rectangle is left without it and iron the flap per 1 cm.

Stitch the flaps.

Begin to sew the pockets with two large rectangles, step back 4.5 cm from the edge, so that the card didn't sink inside and was freely available.

Pin the next rectangle of the same size also stepping 4.5 cm back and stitch on the machine.

Now the last smallest pocket is pinned, 1 cm from the bottom is cut not touching the lower part without glue base.

Fold the edge, baste and stitch.

Pin the pockets to the future wallet and stitch from the two sides.

Now cut out a rectangle of 14.5*24 cm — this will be a pocket for coins.

Make a fold of 4 cm, pin and stitch the sides not reaching the edge at 1 cm.
Then, make cuts to gently turn it outside in.

Turn, fold the edge and baste it. Baste the Velcro.

Fold and stitch on the other side.

Stitch the flap of the pocket and the Velcro. Iron.

Pin the pocket to the purse. Stitch it from both sides and round the corners.

Cut out two fabric details of 7*4 cm — future straps.

Fold in half bending the edges inwards and sewing on the machine from two sides.

Fold the straps in half and stitch from two sides of the zip.

Make cuts on two sides of the pockets.

When sewing the zip, these cuts will help to stitch it well.

That's what you should get, see the corners match each other when basting.

Sew the zip, process the edge, I sewed it round with a herringbone tape, and can also process the edge with cotton ribbon on the bias.

Turn the wallet outside in.

Now the passport cover. Cut two parts of 9.2*13.2 cm from bookbinding cardboard and a connecting strip of watercolor paper of 3*13.2 cm and score it at 1 cm.

Sew the strip to the parts of the cardboard and glue the batting, cutting the edges.

Tightly upholster the cover and make the corners.

Cut two parts of 4*8 cm for the button, round the corners.

Glue dublerin to the backside. Insert one part of the magnetic button in one part and pin it with another.

Stitch on the machine, stepping back 0.5 cm from the edge and turn it inside out.

Cut a cotton strip of 3*13.5 cm, fold from both sides and glue to fabric in the middle of the cover.

Sstitch around the edge of the cover and the strap.

Select the decor and apply the strap.

Age the edges with the scissors and shade with distress ink.

Sew the details on the machine.

Mark where the second part of the button will be and insert it, the holes are made with scissors.

Bend the "whiskers" from the inner side of the strap.

Fasten the button to mark where to sew it on the back. Pin it on the back.

Select the decoration for the backside. Stitch.

Cut out two paper parts of 9*13 cm and transparent pockets of 4*13 cm. Stitch.

Glue the cover, clasp it and leave to dry.

When it's got dry, insert the passport and admire the result!

Here's the set turned out, my daughter loved it :)
