Making a DIY Woolen Pansy Flower

Pansy is the common name of viola flower. In ancient times it was attributed the property to bewitch love. And there is a tradition in England: a young man, shy to declare his love, sends this dried flower to his beloved and writes his name.

Let's try to make this charming flower of wool.

Use any combination of white, blue, yellow, pink, purple and so on. I'll show the process on the example of one lilac purple flower.

In the tutorial you'll find a combination of dry and wet felting. Wet stage gives a kind of watercolour effect by mixing colours of wool in the process. A clear outline of veins - again of dry wool. By combining both techniques at different stages you achieve an optimal result.

All you need

- wool for felting (Merino 18) in tape of purple, saffron, lilac colours and two shades of green

- brush and needles for felting (No. 38)

- film to protect the surface of the table

- water, soap, gloves

- scissors, needle, thread

- brooch pin

Pansies have 5 petals, three of that are slightly smaller and are over two longer ones.

The central petal of the three upper — the widest and brightest. Let's make them.

Pull out strands of medium thickness.

Fold up, put on the brush.

Treat it with needles to shape a petal. First, fix the edges, and then the entire surface. Use the 38 needles from both sides, gently remove from the brush, felt the second side of the petal. The tip is never processed to fix the blank to the item with it.

Add a saffron heart. And the edge of the petal is shaded with lavender wool.

Make two equal petals.

The central petal of the three short ones is wide and bright. Take it and put a lot of saffron wool on it. Pull out a few lilac strands, add saffron, fold in half.

Make the shape on the brush with needle and make the middle lighter.

Take purple wool for two long petals. Threads are layed out in two rows in height.

Also folded in half.

Shape the petals on the brush, darken the edges with purple wool. Make two equal petals.

Begin to collect the flower.

First connect the long petals in the center and perfect with the needles.

Then — two upper petal.

And the widest from the top.

the leaf with the stalk is also formed on the brush, use several shades of green to get a more complex and vibrant colour on the wet stage.

Now begins the "wet" stage. Moisten an soap the flower and the leaf.

Constantly divide each petal from another so they did not stick together.

I first rolled the flower 50 times per 2-3 movements stroking the petals after each one.

Then rub (in gloves) against a reinforced smooth wrap, each petal separately and the whole flower. Continue to alternate rubs and rolls to get dense felt. Roll more.

Dry.

The veins are "drawn" with a needle. Use purple wool.

Small yellow cords are used for anthers, leave one tip free, make a flat, elliptical shape.

Felt the anther to the flower.

Sew the stalk.

You can make a brooch, hairpin, hair accessory, handbag decor and so on.

I here's a flower bed :) Rises mood and brings spring.

Wish you all warm spring, with thaw and tweeting, bright sun and azure sky!

I will be very happy to see your support :)
